Richmond is a culturally diverse and geographically unique community centrally in Metro Vancouver, 20 minutes from Downtown Vancouver, and 25 minutes from the US border. An early centre of European (and later, Japanese) settlement in Richmond was the old fishing village of Steveston on the southwestern tip of Lulu Island. Steveston is now home to several museums and heritage sites, as well as a working harbor for fishing boats. A priority for the City of Richmond is to maintain the fishing and farming heritage as well as protect the rich natural environment, where beautiful trails, historic sites, attractive gardens and more can be explored.<br /><br /> Richmond is also expanding economically with more than 12,000 businesses based in the City. Richmond’s special combination of economic strength and celebrated livability has attracted tens of thousands of newcomers from around the globe. Richmond is a sea port and major distribution centre with a unique mixture of industries including agricultural, high tech, electronics and retail. The Vancouver International Airport is also located in Richmond and is Western Canada’s major “Pacific Gateway.”
